Pastors Mark & Gail Smallcombe

Founders and Senior Ministers of C3 Church San Francisco (Christian City Church)

Mark and Gail, along with their adopted rescue dog “Fizzi” live in the vibrant heart of San Francisco. With a deep passion for the people of the Bay area, they’ve given their lives to help others find true success and purpose in life.

Following a dream to contribute to the life and welfare of San Francisco, they arrived in 2001 from “down under” (Australia) with the passion to establish a church that would bring hope to the community.

Their story has been one of hope and change, in the lives of thousands. Their ability to lift the hearts of people and introduce crime-reducing initiatives within the city of Newcastle in Australia, gave them favor with the mayor and city leaders. Their legacy includes transforming a disused hotel into a drug rehabilitation center, a run-down shopping center into a thriving church, as well as initiating large scale community events and ministries that served and complimented both the populace and the market place.

In just over ten years in San Francisco, they have brought freshness and hope to the community and spiritual life of the city through establishing a diverse, growing and life-giving church.

In addition they have gifted and served the social life of the community over the last seven years, through the creation and establishment of Axis Café & Gallery at the base of Potrero Hill. This has proven to be a pioneer model of “living room style” hospitality that connects business people, artists, entrepreneurs, students and families through great food, coffee, music and the arts in a setting of peacefulness and serenity.

Mark and Gail met in their late teens while pursuing their careers (Mark as a paramedic and Gail as an Artist / High School Art teacher) and though unable to have children of their own, they’ve fostered and helped raise many children throughout their 37 years of loving marriage. Their extended family also includes a delightful 8 years of age Compassion sponsor child from Brazil, called Isadora.

Their late fifties are full of activity and life. Mark remains a keen snowboarder, golfer and cyclist with a passion for beach volleyball and team sports. Gail is a painter who enjoys reading and discovering the beauty of natural environments. Her paintings are inspiring and popular, with an exhibition currently adorning the walls of Axis Gallery.

Best known as a spiritual father and mother, visionary leaders and encouraging coaches, their practical love, warmth and inspiring ministry liberates hearts, creating an appetite for spirituality and for people to discover and be equipped for their real purpose in life.

Just a few moments with Mark and Gail and you’ll discover how God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
